There it goes

January, along with the moon, is waning. The higher country has gathered enough water-soaked snow to suggest that a summer drought is becoming a remote possibility. I may ski tomorrow or perhaps the day after - depending on the ski report, as filtered through years of living in Northidaho (I think it's one word). I've become fussy - I don't like crowds and without significant fresh snow, I'm not that interested.

I've been working on a presentation I'll give at Malaspina at the end of March. It discusses Free/Libre Open Source Software using Friedman's 'The World Is Flat' as an organizational tool. It's fun to speculate what FLOSS and the Internet will do to the inhabitants of this distressed planet, with all the other forces that have been unleashed. After the presentation, I'll put a link to the talk in this blog to maximize your ennui.

Eli's mother turns 83 tomorrow. What an example she sets! Physically active and intellectually alive, she will be hard to emulate as we age. She comes home between trips, because she doesn't want the condo plants to die of neglect. She leaves next week for Monterey, CA. We wonder whom she will take care of once we've died.
